Costume Studio Teaching Assistant and Instructor

The Costume Studio Teaching Assistant and Instructor play a vital role in supporting the operations of our costume design and construction concentration by assisting the lead instructor and students. This position involves ensuring the safe and efficient use of equipment, materials, and tools, as well as offering individualized support to students as they engage in hands-on costume design and construction activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with setup and organization: Help set up the costume shop, ensuring that tools, equipment, and materials are arranged and accessible for student use.
  • Support student learning: Provide individualized assistance to students as they work on their costume design and construction projects, offering guidance, troubleshooting support, and feedback as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and materials: Assist in the maintenance and organization of sewing machines, tools, fabrics, and other materials, ensuring that they are in good working condition and readily available for student use.
  • Enforce safety guidelines: Monitor the use of tools and equipment to ensure that students are following safety protocols and handling materials responsibly.
  • Collaborate with the lead instructor: Work closely with the costume basics instructor to support the delivery of lessons and activities, aiding as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated expertise in costume design and construction, with a strong foundation in basic sewing, patternmaking, and fabric manipulation techniques.
  • Teaching or instructional experience, particularly in a classroom or workshop setting, is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan and deliver effective lessons and activities.
  • A passion for fostering creativity and helping students develop their artistic abilities.

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

SALARY: $30 HR
