What You’ll Do:

Engage & Inspire Students

  • Teach students to analyze complex texts, craft compelling arguments, and master rhetorical strategies.

  • Bring literature and nonfiction to life with interactive lessons, discussions, and real-world connections.

  • Guide students through the writing process, refining their ability to express ideas with clarity and persuasion.

Design & Implement Effective Instruction

  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that support AP curriculum goals.

  • Utilize AP College Board frameworks and unit planning to ensure students are well-prepared for the exam.

  • Create a classroom environment that fosters inquiry, debate, and critical thinking.

Support Student Growth & Achievement

  • Assess student progress through thoughtful feedback, data-driven instruction, and differentiated strategies.

  • Offer extra support, enrichment opportunities, and skill-building exercises to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Prepare students for AP exam success by implementing rigorous writing and analysis strategies.

Collaborate & Continue Learning

  • Work closely with ELA Instructional Coaches and fellow educators to refine instructional practices.

  • Participate in weekly LEAP meetings, professional development workshops, and curriculum planning.

  • Engage with parents and families to support student academic success.

What We’re Looking For:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Previous experience teaching AP English Language & Composition strongly preferred.
Possesses or is eligible for a valid District of Columbia teaching license issued by OSSE.
Successful completion of Praxis I & II exams (unless already holding a standard teaching license).
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging learning environment.
Passion for literature, writing, and empowering students to think critically.
Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration.
